Statement of Intent draft

For my protest music video, I have chosen to use the song 'Hypersonic Missiles' by the artist, Sam Fender. Fender is a new and upcoming artist who writes indie rock music, often with meaningful messages behind his songs. I chose this song because as well as it fitting the brief, I am passionate about the protest message behind it and enjoy the song itself. The song is a dense, compelling picture of the modern world- from politics to social change to the world grinding to a halt thanks to climate change and war. I think this is a very current matter which is affecting everyone from all backgrounds, which is why it is important. The artist is someone that would make this protest because he is a young and aware person who understands the problems the world is facing and highlights how many young people feel a pressure to make change yet don't know how. The song was released in  March 2019 and I think the fact that it is a recent song, emphasises the protests importance and rel...

How my music video will attract the 'perfect' audience member

Brief: 16-25 year old, socially conscious, middle to upmarket demographic The 'perfect' audience member for my music video would be aware of global trends and the situations occurring around them. They are aware of the political and social affects on the world and are interested in standing up for what they believe in yet understand that it can be difficult to actually make a change. The are understanding of developments in diversity and are open minded to different peoples beliefs. They are generally a determined person who is motivated by living life to the fullest and fulfilling their purpose. They do not disregard the mainstream trends but are more interested in the less popular, edgy trends. This is in music and clothing etc. However they do not particularly stand out in a crowd. How will my music video attract this person? My music video will attract this person by having a meaningful story line that leaves the audience member feeling inspired to act against the neg...

Key elements of music video check list

Check list of things to include in my music video 1. I want to include a powerful and moving message that enlightens the audience to actively think about making a change. This will be done through the mise-en-scene and story line. 2. I will include a range of different shot types to make the video interesting and also to show different perspectives of the scenes. I think it would be especially eggective to include a number of close up and extreme close up shots to intensify the storyline and highlight the emotions of the characters. 3. I want to include intertextuality perhaps in a nostalgic way to highlight how drastically the world has changed from then to now. At first, the reference may be comforting for an audience member and then I aim for it to create a shocking after thought an realisation for the audience. 4. For the mise-en-scene I aim to stick to a realistic and relatable atmosphere so that the audience can feel like they are in the same place as the characters and it re...

Analysis of first ten shots from protest music videos

Image
Analysis of first ten shots from protest music videos 1. Paper Planes by M.I.A The first shot of this music video is an establishing shot with duration of one second. It is black and white which could be homage to old American movies. This is a narrative shot. This shot is followed by four other very similar establishing shots with paper planes flying through which switch on the beat of the music. The song is protesting about immigrants struggling to find work and being pushed away and looked down upon for their ethnicities. Therefore the use of black and white shots could be to remove colour of people and to view everybody as one despite their backgrounds. This is a one second duration shot of a mid close up of a busy road with lots of peoples legs walking. Again is it black and white perhaps to blur colour and create a retro style. The two characters that are focused on look like business people due to one having a suitcase showing perhaps they have been on a bu...

Reasons behind my song choice

Song choice: Hypersonic Missiles  Artist: Sam Fender Released: 5th March 2019 Label: Polydor Records Producer: Bramwell Bronte Genre: Indie rock/ Heartland rock I chose this song because as well as it fitting the brief, I am passionate about the protest message behind it and enjoy the song itself. The song is a dense, compelling picture of the modern world- from politics to social change to the world grinding to a halt thanks to climate change and war. I think this is a very current matter which is affecting everyone from all backgrounds, which is why it is important. Sam Fender explained that the name of the song was inspired by a 'newly developed Russian missile that  travels at something like nine times the speed of sound.' Again, this highlights the message of the songs relevance in today's world as it is a reminder of how war-obsessed and destructive society has become. When describing the song Fender said, "In many ways, an unorthodox love song. Its main ...
